Nestled on the coast of Washington State, Ruby beach boasts giant rock formations that break the powerful force of the Pacific Ocean tide. I took this photo with my best friend laughing in the background, a memory which I think offers such a contrast to the gloomy shores of Olympic National Park. Every time I look at it, I hear her laugh and think of the paradox of life, that there must be gloomy days to make the sunshine that much sweeter.
